faif Quin

faif Quin is a filmmaker and self-taught fine art photographer. A child of immigrants, the Liberian-American grew up exploring the diverse cultures of various Black diasporic communities up and down the East Coast. Her experiences cultivated a vivid understanding of a greater, uniting ‘blackness’, and it’s from this place that faif’s dream-like imagery unfolds. She aims to combine themes of community & resilience, with an idealized, Neo-Expressionist portrayal of Black Diasporic & Black Queer culture through a humanizing, surreal lens. Her work has been featured in several publications, and her recent photography series is currently on display at the Cultural Arts Center, Douglasville. faif’s lens is exploratory, it is curious, and it’s true to faif Quin.

provide me guidance

provide me guidance

A striking visual shot by fine art photographer faif Quin, ‘provide me guidance’ contemplates the consistent presence of spirituality across the African Diaspora. faif’s use of 35mm black and white film illustrates a tale as old as time. Without the distraction of color, the viewer is forced to sit alone with the surreal imagery: a depiction of a single mirror as it hovers above the trees, and in-between the electrical lines. The mirror is lit with a bright, inviting glow.
